Socratic Method

Education and Pedagogy → MCQs → Socrates → Socratic Method

The most influential work of Socrates was the innovation of dialectic method of inquiry, known as the Socratic Method. The Socratic Method is the process of questioning and testing the responses on the given topic to stimulate critical thinking, to encourage fundamental insight into the issue being discussed, to illuminate ideas, and to find the truth.

Socrates asked relevant persons about some concept, for example,

  • What is justice?
  • What is knowledge?
  • What is love?
  • What is courage?

An interesting fact is that almost all the people first claimed to know the answers, but later (after some follow up questions) confused in answering the questions. Socrates found that people really do not know what they claimed they knew at all.
