The IELTS speaking test lasts for 11 to 14 minutes, and is divided in 3 parts.
Part 1: (Time: 4 to 5 minutes)
In part 1, the examiner introduces himself or herself and ask questions like,
What is your name?
What should I call you (Should I call you with your first name or last name)?
What’s your nationality?
Are you a student or do you work somewhere?
Some questions related to your education or job.
Some questions related to your accommodation and city.

Part 2: (Time: 1 to 2 minutes)
The candidate is given a task card and is asked to talk on a particular topic. The candidate is allowed one minute to prepare and can make some rough notes if he/she wishes. Then, the examiner may asks one or two rounding-off questions.
Part 3: (Time: 4 to 5 minutes)
The examiner and the candidate engage in a discussion of some issues which are thematically linked to the topic in Part 2.
