Edhi Foundation

Raising the slogan of “Live and help Live”, Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi established ‘Edhi Foundation’ in 1951. The Foundation has marked a new touchstone in the field of humanitarianism. This Karachi-based non-profit social organization is actively indulged in the provision of several welfare services ranging from first-aid to complete hospitalization. Along with having established shelters for the homeless, mentally-ill people and orphans the organization also endeavors to maintain rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, child adoption centers, refugee and missing person service and free kitchen scheme.

Keeping into consideration the modern needs and trends of the society the NGO has also launched educational services of primary school level and ‘Rickshaw Rozgaar Scheme’ for the unemployed youth.

The organization has won many national and international awards of which Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1989 by the Government of Pakistan and Gandhi Peace Award in 2007 by Indian Government are prominent. Edhi Foundation holds the record in the ‘Guinness Book’ maintaining the world’s largest ambulance service.

A nurse by her profession, Mrs. Bilquis Edhi equally participates in her husband’s altruist cause. The work of Edhi Family and the organization they erected is honored all across Pakistan. People generously contribute in Mr. Edhi’s cause that is regarded as an entire institution of philanthropy in himself.
