Karot hydropower plant

The $1.65 billion Karot hydropower plant will be built on the Jhelum River near village Karot in Rawalpindi district. The proposed project site is 65 km from Rawalpindi city. The Karot hydropower plant is the first project finance from the Silk Road investment fund of $40bn. The construction of the 720 MW power project will begin in 2016, and the plant is expected to be operational in 2020. This plant will be developed by private Chines companies and will be handed overt to Pakistan government after 30 years.
