Sample Space

Sample space is the all possible outcomes of an event. For example, in tossing a coin the all possible outcomes are head and tail. So,

Sample Space = {head, tail}
Or Simply
S.S = {H,T}

Similarly, if we roll a dice then the all possible outcomes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So the sample space is,

S.S = {1,2,3,4,5,6}

In a football match between two teams A and B, what could be the possible outcomes? May be team A wins the match or may be team B. And, it is also possible that the match remains tie with equal number of goals. So, the sample space for a particular team is

S.S = {win, loss, equal}
