Satellites in Outer Space

Sociology | Mercantile Law | International Law | International Relations

There are currently 1236 satellites performing functions in the outer space; launched by various states or even the private companies of states. If we take into account the earth in terms of 360 angles around it then it can be easily assumed that each state is provided a specific slot there. Occupation of more slots depends on the advancement of technology of a state.

When a satellite expires then it won’t return back from space but it will stay there forever. Now, international law has made each state to ensure that their satellites which are about to expire must move into satellite graveyard which is approximately about 4000 km above in the space whereas normally the satellites work while remaining at the height of 3600 km.

Further, pre-launch information must be shared by a state with other states as well. Only for peaceful purposes outer space can be utilized.
