Sahiwal coal-fired power plant

The Sahiwal coal-fired power plant is recently completed Coal-Fired power generation project in Sahiwal, Punjab. The installed capacity of the project is 2×660 = 1320 MW (2 units of 660 MW each). Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the first unit of 660 MW on May 25, 2017, and the second unit of 660 MW started generating electricity on June 2, 2017. The Sahiwal coal-fired power project is Punjab’s first coal-fired power plant and is executed by Huaneng Shandong Rui Group, China.

Most of the coal used for the power plant is being imported from Indonesia. And, the cost of the project was $1600 million. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performed the ground breaking of the project on May 30, 2014, and the civil works on the site started in February 2015.
