The Mountain
A mountain is a natural elevation of the earth’s surface rising abruptly to a peak (also called summit). Mountains are formed by the eruption of molten rock onto the surface of the Earth, a process called volcanism. Few mountains are isolated, but most mountains occur in large mountain ranges.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain on the surface of Earth. Its peak is 8,848 meters above sea level, and it is located along the border of China and Nepal. K2 is the second highest mountain with the peak of 8,611 meters, and it is located along the border of China and Pakistan.
