Internal Waters

Sociology | Mercantile Law | International Law | International Relations

A state may have a part of its land stretched outward or inward in the water. Thus, the measurement of territorial sea can be confused due to such shape. In order to deal with it, the international law has facilitated the states to measure the distance from the point where the stretched part of land ends. The extra water area that will be there in front of the main baseline will be called ‘Internal Waters’ and it will be considered as a part of the territorial waters. No innocent passage will be allowed there unless the state grants permission.
