A businessman can:
- Buy a call option
- Sell a call option
- Buy a put option
- Sell a put option
Buyers are referred to assumes a long position, and sellers are referred to assumes short position. For example, if an investor has bought a call option then it is said that the investor has assumed a long position in the call option. Similarly, if an investor has sold a put option then it is said that the investor has assumed a short position in the put option. Hence, there are four positions in options:
- Buying a call option
A long position in a call option - Selling a call option
A short position in a call option - Buying a put option
A long position in a put option - Selling a put option
A short position in a put option
