Free Press Unlimited

Free Press Unlimited is an independent international foundation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Free Press Unlimited helps journalists in conflict areas and battle fields to provide their audience with trustworthy information. Currently, Director Policy and Programmes of the foundation is Leon Willems, and the Director Operations is Ruth Kronenburg. Free Press Unlimited is a team of around 50 professionals with projects in 39 countries around the world.

On 2 November each year, International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, the Free Press Unlimited presents awards in three categories. The award winners receive EUR 15,000 and world-wide recognition of his or her services. The three categories are:

1. Best Report Award
This award is presented to the best foreign documentary made with support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery Fund.

2. Most Resilient Journalist Award
Most Resilient Journalist Award is an award presented annually to a journalist who has demonstrated extraordinary strength of character, courage and perseverance in reporting the news.
Winner 2018: Rana Ayyub, India

3. Newcomer of the Year
This award is presented to a new talented journalist.
Winner 2018: Kemi Busari, Nigeria
