The inauguration ceremony of the Central Asia South Asia (CASA-1000) electricity transmission line in Tursunzade, Tajikistan was held on 12 May 2016. The CASA-1000 will transmit electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan via Afghanistan to Pakistan.

The initial plan is to transmit about 1,300MW electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan will receive 1,000MW while 300MW will be received by Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with the leaders of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan inaugurated CASA-1000 project at Tursunzade city of Tajikistan on 12th May 2016.
