Punjab initiative to set up 7,800 MW of coal-fired power plants
Punjab government has planned to set up six coal-fired power plants, two power plants of 1320MW each will be complete by 2017 and the remaining four by the year 2018. Two pairs each at six projects would produce 7820MW of electricity which would fill the gap between demand and supply even in hot summer. The Punjab government has already invited bids for six power plants at selected sites of Qadirabad near Sahiwal, Bhikki near Sheikhupura, Haveli Bahadur Shah near Jhang, Balloki near Kasur, Trinda Sawaywala near Rahimyar Khan and Mouza Syed Wala near Muzaffargarh.
